In the interest of full-disclosure, this press release comes from a Prilosec OTC-sponsored John Madden.  With that being said, it’s still pretty cool for the offensive line to be recognized:

CINCINNATI, OH (September 21, 2011) – Aided by powerful pass protection and dependable run blocking, the WASHINGTON REDSKINS overcame an eight point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Arizona Cardinals 22-21. The Redskins offensive line now joins an emerging list of contenders for the 3rd annual Madden Protectors Award, presented by Prilosec OTC. This award honors the NFL’s best offensive line and will be presented during the week of Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis. Past Madden Protectors Award recipients include the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (2010) and the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (2009).

The Madden Protectors Award recognizes the fundamental role offensive linemen play in their teams’ success by providing consistent and powerful protection day in and day out.

With the victory, the Washington Redskins, amassed a total of 455 yards on Sunday, and certainly opened a few eyes in the NFC East with their inspired 2-0 start. The Redskins offensive line was solid throughout the game Sunday, allowing only one sack and providing quarterback REX GROSSMAN (Florida) the protection to complete 25 of 43 passes for 283 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, running backs TIM HIGHTOWER (Richmond) and RAY HELU (Nebraska) combined for a total 170 yards. The Redskins rank among the Top-Five in yards per carry and among the Top-10 in passing yards per game.

After trailing the Arizona Cardinals by eight points with less than 11 minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Rex Grossman led the Redskins on a five and a half minute scoring drive converting three third downs and one fourth down along the way. On 4th and 3 Grossman converted with SANTANA MOSS (Miami, FL) for an 18-yard touchdown with 5:18 to play. After a failed two-point conversion and still trailing by two points, GRAHAM GANO (Florida State) was able to seal the victory with a 34-yard field goal with only 1:45 minutes to play. Starting in the trenches on Sunday for the Redskins were tackles JAMMAL BROWN (Oklahoma) and TRENT WILLIAMS (Oklahoma); guards CHRIS CHESTER (Oklahoma) and KORY LICHTENSTEIGER (Bowling Green); and center WILL MONTGOMEREY (Virginia Tech). In his second season with the Redskins, CHRIS FOERSTER serves as the Offensive Line coach.

The best part of the press release is the quote by the football video game guru himself, Hall Of Fame Coach John Madden:

“Washington’s offensive line did a great job protecting Rex Grossman and setting up a balanced offensive attack.”

Thanks, coach.

This is an award that’s been given out by Madden and Prilosec-OTC for three years now, both on a weekly and annual basis.  Now that it’s lunch time and perhaps you have heartburn, you can go to Madden’s endorsement page.

And of course, thank you for choosing the Official Redskins Blog for your heartburn remedies.
